Sustainability
βProduce Less, Produce it betterβ
We prioritize quality over quantity. Our mission is to build custom, durable wetsuits that can be worn longer. Each wetsuit is made to the clientβs specifications, including color, design, thickness, entry choice, and finishing. Youβll love it and wear it longer. We also believe that sustainability should be a necessity, not just a marketing tool. Our goal is to produce wetsuits from environmentally conscious materials and reduce our ecological footprint. Weβre committed to conscious manufacturing, utilizing recycled materials from the inception to the conclusion of our value chain, while being mindful of our impact on the planet. The end result is that you get a great wetsuit made with a smaller carbon footprint. Thatβs smart. Keep reading below for a glimpse into our sustainabilityΒ efforts.
Our Materials Choice
Our custom wetsuits are crafted from Yamamoto Limestone neoprene, which is completely petroleum-free. Composed of over 99.7% calcium carbonate, Yamamotoβs limestone integrates a highly sustainable process in the manufacturing of our neoprene. In contrast to most wetsuits that use petroleum-based neoprene derived from harmful petrochemicals, the limestoneβs decomposition method is much cleaner and relies solely on hydroelectric power. The heat generated from our material is used for eel nurseries, a vital food resource and an integral part of Japanese food culture.
Certified Fabric Mills
Our fabric mills have received the blue sign System Partner certification, which, in addition to monitoring the reasonable use of chemicals, ensures that our manufacturerβs energy and water resource utilization efficiency and waste disposal all comply with the most stringent standards in the global textile industry.
Our Achievements
Transition to Renewable Energy: Ocean Tailored is powered entirely by solar energy, enabling us to generate our own 100% green energy.
Zero Waste Initiative
We practice upcycling, transforming pre-existing materials into new products instead of discarding them. This not only reduces waste but also fosters creativity and innovation. All leftover materials from wetsuit construction are repurposed to create neoprene goodies such as can covers, wax pockets, and key rings. Any remaining scraps are used to fill punching bags in the combat industry, ensuring zero waste.Elimination of Unnecessary Packaging
We believe in intentional design when it comes to packaging. Any material that is not useful or is discarded after unboxing is eliminated. All essential packaging materials are made from recycled content and are recyclable.
Switch to Energy-Efficient Lighting and Machinery
Despite being solar-powered; weβve taken an additional step to conserve energy. Weβve replaced factory lighting with LEDs and upgraded our machinery motors to energy-efficient servo motors.
Promotion of Fair Trade Practices
Our factory adheres to fair trade practices, ensuring that workers receive fair wages and work in safe and healthy conditions. Our commitment to fair trade also promotes sustainable production practices, reducing the environmental impact of the fashion industry.
